Daniel Vila wrote a very powerful condemnation of the demonstration last Saturday. He said, "Last Saturday's demonstration as well as the outrageous attack that Miguel Maldonado made against Black people at the station during his presentation at the Pacifica National Board meeting on Sunday, September 21 (later played on the air) are unfair and only contribute to creating antagonisms within the WBAI family." I did not have all the facts, but that was pretty much my conclusion as well. Last week, when Loraine, our self-professed "true Pacifican" LA LAB member, promoted that demonstration, leading me to believe that she was urging listeners from the various stations to support the protestors. I politely called the question whether she felt that promoting a protest at WBAI at this moment in time was really a good idea, given the need for outreach and building confidence in the elections and all. Loraine did not show the character or courage or decency to respond honestly to my question, but her defender Lubin figured this was a terrific opportunity to bash and insult me on a myriad of false claims instead. So he spent a few days lying against me. Speaking of lies, the mizerable Loraine did eventually speak up....not in her own defense, but to lend support to Gregory's oft- repeated slanderous attack in which they accuse me of filing "lawsuits" against Pacifica....when if fact, Gregory has been part of the most malicious and damaging lawsuits in Pacifica's history! I, on the other hand, have filed NO lawsuits against anyone around here. I really should though, and I feel bad for not doing so already. Cagen, Coughlin et al have virtually stolen the Pacifica Foundation, in broad daylight, at put it at enormous risk. Back to the intial subject..... I wish the Latino Collective the best of luck in their very serious and constructive campaign to get their voices on the air at WBAI. If, and when, a protest against the station seems to be the appropriate action, I'd support it. Until then, I also wish Miguel all the luck in the world from healing from the abuse that he has been the receipient of as well as to caution him, and others, from using the same hysterical and out of step so-called radicalism that he has been victimized by. I think many of his complaints are/were justified. He's obviously put in an enourmous about of time at Pacifica and all sides of the Latino community have a right to be active and honored. It's a pity that those left standing after the Pacifica Wars are so totally unqualified to lead the organization into better days. They are too busy now, bashing whoever they think are not quite in line with their fascist interpretation of Lew Hill's educational project. Diversity, my ass! Justice, no way. Peace? It's still not for Pacifica. Nalini Lasiewicz ------------------------ Yahoo!
