Similar by the way, to Venezuela - where they accused Chavez of being  
a dictator... go there you'll hear a ear full ---- they way this anti- 
Iran stuff is expressed amongst the so-called "new left" (sounding  
more and more like the old boss) is 'cause the direction that country  
is taken does not jive with the usual anti-religion and specifically  
Islamophobic reaction that American left have had for the long time...

There are a couple of interesting open letters that was written to  
the Reform Iran faction of Shirin Ebadi (the "noble prize winner" -  
who recently suggested things were better under the "Shah" -- (so I  
was told) - so much for the reformists... any wonder they don't get  
anywhere, and people who take 'em seriously are people here in the  
US... )
