As, if the clergy of Iran "lost credibility with the
public" then pray tell why did that public dump the
so-called "reformers" during this past election, and
opt for a more observant Muslim who is on record of
supporting the clerics of Iran, particularly the
Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Khameinii.
There were international obervers during these and all
elections in Iran and even Islamic Iran's worst
detractors have never made claims the election results
were rigged in any way.
All I can say about the snip below is that it is
nothing more than a weak attempt to spin. I guess the
NY Times is counting on the ignorance of the average
American who can so easily be manipulated with a
little rearranging of words.
