I just read the article I am about to link to on top posting. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Top-posting It recommends inline posting which Terry Goodman does. Goodman responds by interspersing his responses amongst the original text. One thing Goodman does not do is trim excess. The wikipedia page suggested trimming the text and leaving people only the idea what you are responding to. I have not been fond of inline posting though. The wikipedia page says top posting has become the default. I once wrote an inline post to an ex-boyfriend and he complained. Turns out inline posts are preferred by the people who started on out Usenet. I think I will resolve to trim messages from a long thread. Leaving all the replies is havoc to group digests. Google has a feature that hides quoted text and gives a link to it in the message. Not everyone has that feature. The thing that bugs me most is replies with no context. People will reply with "Yep." You have no idea who they are talking to. Anyways, I am glad to see Lorraine, Richard, Altaf, and Camille have a discussion on here. This group is very sedate now. I have been on usenet lately. It is a land of flamewars and accusations of stalking. I have seen such sick things in Pacifica but I am hoping people put on the brakes. If you want to see something disturbing go to alt.usenet.kooks. I am still not certain what the group is for. I think it is to accuse people of mental illness, stalking, and to make accusations of perversion. You can never be certain there who is the victim. I saw this happen to a woman I was on a Yahoo group with. It is so convoluted. She was accusing others of stalking. While others were accusing her of stalking. Well, now I am offtopic. And we wouldn't want that. Also why did it take me so long to read a netiquette page? -- Melinda Smith =^..^= http://angelfire.com/zine/melsbasketcase ------------------------ Yahoo!
