-------- Original Message -------- Sat May 27 11:38:55 2006 From: Mike Feinstein Dear all Fortunately and happily, the police raid this morning did not materialize! I was at the Farm last night til about 12:30 am, one of several Greens still there at that time (also Marla Bernstein, Sasha Karlik, Phillip Koebel and John Wenger). During the late evening strategy sessions (and contrary to what was thought earlier in the evening), people believed the raid was not going to happen, but that there might be a 'negotiated walk-through' on the site instead, with one or two officers from the sheriff's department. This was seen as a compromise that might stave off the raid until we can rally the LA City government and the developer to change their tune. As it turned out, not even the 'walk through' occured. At the same time, Farm organizers said last night that Mayor Villaraigosa has apparently changed his position somewhat, and is reported as calling for the developer to accept the $6 million that has been raised thus far, rather than holding out for the $16 million asking price. I have not seen that confirmed in the media/on the web, but that is what the organizers said, and if so, progress is being made and a sign of the ongoing pressure we are generating with the encampment. Tonight there will be a raging party at the Farm: http://www.southcentralfarmers.com/index.php?option=com_events&task=view_detail&Itemid=&agid=63&year=2006&month=05&day=27 I encourage any of you who have not been down there, to do so and feel the miraculous energy that is going on there - it feels like a modern Woodstock, but an LA/Latino/multi-lingual version. Also to be reported, was that our own Linda Piera-Avila was there this morning at 5am, just in case. Maybe that's why the sheriff's deparment didn't show! And continuing to amaze us all, Julia Butterfly Hill not only continues to tree sit, but she is fasting throughout this process to ground not only herself, but the energy for the whole process. She is 12 days into her fast and is an incredible source of light and inspiration for all down there. Folks, this is the real deal. Get down there if you can. Finally, thanks for all for the reminders on Greens who have been involved, as the list continues to grow - Los Angeles County Alfonso Acosta Doug Barnett Zack Beatty Marla Berstein Byron DeLear Peter Dudar Mike Feinstein Maricela Guzman Woody Hastings Eugene Hernandez Sasha Karlik Sarah Knopp Phillip Koebel Tracy Larkins Sally Marr James McKissack Jennifer Morris Faramarz Nabavi Jack Neff Jason Neville James Odling Linda Piera-Avila Perias Pillay Lisa Taylor Rebecca Tobias John Ulloth Donna Warren - Contra Costa County Peter Camejo - Orange County Lynda Hernandez Matt Leslie Jane Rand - San Francisco County June Brashares - Santa Clara County Tian Harter _______________________________________________ GPLAC-Forum mailing list GPLAC-Forum@xxxxxxxxxxxx http://marla.cagreens.org/mailman/listinfo/gplac-forum ------------------------ Yahoo!
