with apologies to Pete Seeger: Where Have All the Posters Gone? Long time passing... Where Have All the Posters Gone? Long time ago... Where Have All the Posters Gone? Harangues and blather have driven them off... When will we ever learn? When will we ever learn? Not too very long ago, there were lots of people posting to this list. But most of them have gone elsewhere now -- and their absence only magnifies the seeming importance of a small number of self-involved individuals who don't really care about the dispiriting effects their posts have on the list as a whole. It's a vicious cycle. And I don't blame folks for leaving... hell, I've been on the verge of leaving, myself. Supposedly there are about 600 people subscribed to this list -- but I doubt there really are more than 200 at this point (and that may be a high estimate). I dropped off NewPacifica (and all the other lists I was on) in December 2001 owing to serious computer problems. Imagine my astonishment when I got my computer situation straightened out last May and discovered that I was still getting posts from NewPacifica after being absent for over 3 years!! The point is, unless you take the affirmative step of UNsubscribing from the list, you are still considered an active subscriber -- even if your email account is bouncing every incoming post. The only way to know for sure how many real subscribers there are is for Pam to reconfigure the Yahoo settings to drop all of the inactive accounts. For the time being, I guess I will stick around and see how things go here. Hopefully, new life can be breathed into this list before rigor mortis sets in... Good night, and good luck!
