Re: [NewPacifica] I smell a rat (Re: Is having almost all White middle class people in power...)

Title: Re: [NewPacifica] I smell a rat (Re: Is having almost all
When I first began the wbaielections list, it was sabotaged by Fred Nguyen and Jim DeMaeght, who "flooded" the list, just as they are doing to New Pacifica now, with so many emails for so many months that people were driven away and the list became useless.  I refused to be shut down, and the list still exists, but it is efforts like thse, aided by unwitting members who bother to respond to the idiocy of these folks, that destroy lists meant for open dialogue and honest consideration of issues, differences, and problems.

Edwin is doing the same thing to the goodlight board, diverting attention from real issues and mocking those sincere enough to post about them.

Somewhere there's a school that teaches people how to undermine honest dialogues and open discussions.  I too would like to know who is paying their tuition  to do this and then to practice on Pacifica lists one by one by one.  It does indeed seem like a concerted effort across the network.

The basic remedy is one that some of us have difficulty applying:  don't respond to this kind of trolling.  Silence  is the one thing that cures this disease.  Don't respond to gossip, personal attacks, insults, provocative posts designed to undermine the credibility of the poster while ignoring the substance of any information in the message.

Start a new thread, with a new Subject: line.

But don't respond to the baiting that is laid down to distract us from the real issues.  The issues are NOT how many people of what color are on the list, or who said what to whom.  The real issues are those that are obscured by these diversions.  Ignore anything by the above-mentioned people, and see how much the conversation will improve!  Post "Troll Alert" whenever you detect this kind of attack - for that is what it is - on our attempts at thoughtful discussions.

There will be attacks on me for this post:  I will be called all sorts of names, and my credibility attacked in many ways.  Notice how few of the attacks go to the question of diversionary posting by habitual nay-sayers.  Don't answer.  Don't respond.  Much of the problem is exacerbated by those well-meaning folks who respond to every attack on undeserving colleagues with long discussions, explanations, defenses, and counter-arguments.  Their courtesy and intelligent defenses result in only one thing:  keeping us from considering the issues that really concern Pacifica.  Instead of responding to these trolls as if they were sincere, keep on with consideration of the real problems facing Pacifica.  We really cannot afford the luxury of these continuing diversionary garbage posts, as I think of them.  If you cannot discipline yourself not to  open posts from these people, then create a filter and send them to the trash.  Open the Trash mailbox once a week and see if you missed anything worthwhile. If your friends are attacked, they will understand if you just post "Troll Alert!" and ignore the bait.   And use the hour you saved for taking a walk, exchanging a real conversation with a sincere friend, and congratulating yourself on dodging another attack by Those People.

I agree.  I just wonder why anyone is even replying to this nitwit
who is openly calling for Race War? What is such a person even doing
on a Pacifica list? I thought Pacifica was supposed to stand for
greater understanding of what divides us for the purpose of healing
those divisions?
