[NewPacifica] It Takes a Celebrity to Raise an Issue: Nightline Visits the Congo

Ben Affleck cajoled ABC News into tagging along on his trips to
the Congo -- their first reports from that country since 2001,
if I'm not mistaken.

Ah, celebrities... where would we be without them? <exasperated sigh>

I mean, every US media consultant worth his salt just *knows* that all those
tv sets will click off as soon as viewers hear there's a report coming on
about some un-glamorous *furrin country* -- unless, of course, there's
a big-name Hollywood celeb there to glamorize things for them.

I just hope Mr. Affleck doesn't pull a Mia Farrow and call for US troops
to be sent in to "take care of things"...

Ben Affleck's Journey to the Congo

Writer, producer, actor and director Ben Affleck has traveled to the Congo
three
times over the past eight months, in hopes of learning about the humanitarian
crisis plaguing the region. More than 4 million people have died there in the
past decade, making it the deadliest conflict since World War II. Affleck and
the
"Nightline" team travel to the heart of Africa in a special edition of
"Nightline."
