Please repost this invitation to your friends and colleagues who have an interest in the Pacifica Foundation. There must be more subscribers than is just represented on the various listserves! Thanks! NL ======================================== Special Guest: Greg Guma The Lew Hill Project of the Lasiewicz Foundation has invited former Pacifica Foundation executive director, Greg Guma, to participate in an online public exchange, beginning this Thursday morning and continuing through Sunday August 3, 2008. We plan to host a conversation about the challenges and internal conflicts that Greg documented in his recent reports on Pacifica Foundation. (see links below.) The dialog will utilize our yahoo group website, Pacifica Radiowaves. Greg Guma has been a progressive journalist for many years and also has an advanced degree in public administration and planning. His series, called "Planet Pacifica: An Inside Story," is the most detailed account to date of how the new membership structure at Pacifica is unfolding. During his tenure, he tried to implement a variety of changes designed to dramatically improve communication and build consensus throughout the network. Greg had planned stay in his position until a new Executive Director had been hired and trained, but internal politics seemed to trump common sense and he was pushed out of the network prematurely. Since his departure, Greg has stayed current on the events within the network and it will be interesting to hear whether his changes have been carried forward by the new management team. Members of the listserve and members of the public will be invited to submit questions or comments during this online conversation. Beginning Thursday, July 31, Greg will check the site periodically throughout the day and issue replies. Please join us in a wide ranging conversation. All are welcome to participate: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/PacificaRadiowaves If new readers wish to access the Lew Hill Project document archives (photos and files) prior or during this online discussion, please send a blank email to: PacificaRadiowaves-subscribe@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Regards, Nalini Lasiewicz Lasiewicz Foundation (818) 249-9691 ======================== Planet Pacifica: An Inside Story Part One: Greg Guma's examination of the original listener-supported network and challenges facing independent media in an age of deception and decline in the credibility of journalism Introduction http://muckraker-gg.blogspot.com/2008/03/life-on-outside-inside- pacifica.html The Road to Berkeley Pacifica's beginnings, a brief history of radio and TV, and how the author became a CEO When Radio Was New http://muckraker-gg.blogspot.com/2008/03/when-radio-was-new.html The Early Days of the Tube http://muckraker-gg.blogspot.com/2008/03/early-days-of-tube.html Managing Pacifica: How It Beganhttp://muckraker- gg.blogspot.com/2008/03/managing-pacifica-how-it-began.html 9/11 Theories and Pacifica's Fear Factor http://muckraker-gg.blogspot.com/2008/03/911-theories-and-pacificas- fear-factor.html Applying for the Dream Job from Hell http://muckraker-gg.blogspot.com/2008/03/applying-for-dream-job-from- hell.html Challenge or Folly? http://muckraker-gg.blogspot.com/2008/04/managing-pacifica-challenge- or-folly.html In the Bubble Complaints, conspiracies, KPFA v.
