[NewPacifica] Howl for Censorship on private Pacifica related listservs

Yes you are GREAT Nalini (as you say you are) - so it is O.K for you to
Censor and Ban because you are not official Pacifica. It is very good for all
the Pacifica related private listservs to Censor and Ban and be privately OWNED
because they are not official Pacifica. It is not the case that if the Pacifica
"activists" Censor and Ban in their private Pacifica activities then a Pattern
and Practice and a culture of Censorship will be created and then the official
Pacifica entities and officials will just follow that practice. And also since
you sure so GREAT Nalini then you should have both the right and duty to Censor
and Ban and be the self appointed "leader" and the 'great one" - hey that is
just like those in office in Pacifica is it not? so let us proceed in that
pattern and see how it works out. Is it working out pretty well so far?
I guess that most in Pacifica think that we need such self appointed
"leaders" and self aggrandized "great ones" .Democracy and equality just does
not seem to be respected at Pacifica. Nalini gives her orders and makes her
"Rules" and all MUST obey. And others do likewise in Pacifica affairs. Is
that working out well for Pacifica?

Jim "One problem though seems to be their that are a whole lot of self
appointed 'leaders' and 'great ones' who seem to be competing in Pacifica for
who is the greatest and the highest self appointed leader." D.

Oh and Nalini - why don't you keep your comments on these sorts of thing to
your own private listserv: " Pacificaradiowaves@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx""

You're just being silly, again. If you really see any censorship from
Pacifica, you ought to take it up with the station management or the national
management.

I'm not "Pacifica." I'm Nalini Lasiewicz and I have a research project
called the Lew Hill Project. I seek out and collect corporate archives about
Pacifica and I provide analysis on the governance system as my way to support
the organization. Pacifica Radiowaves is meant as a positive contribution to
Pacifica, but it Pacifica Foundation doesn't have any role in how I set up,
design or moderate the listserve. I do keep the list open, anyone on the web
can read it. There are certain guidelines and a reasonable code of conduct
which I plan to maintain. This isn't about censorship, it's just that one of
my listserves is not for the "issues of the day." I have another that is. You
are welcome to post there: www.kpfkChat.org

Unfortunately although Pacifica (and Pacifica "activists" on Pacifica
related listservs) constantly promotes itself as being against Censorship, in
actuality Pacifica very often Censors and Bans information and people who
oppose the current "Ruling factions" (or wannabe "Ruling factions") at Pacifica.
And weirdly such Censorship and Banning at Pacifica is exactly what
the main line corporate capitalist media does when it Censors and Bans its
opponents.

[And yes I know there is a difference between official Pacifica and
"Pacifica related listservs" etc - but the "culture" of Pacifica "activism" on
the "privately owned" Pacifica related listservs DOES greatly influence what
goes on at Pacifica.]

"Censorship and Banning Radio' then it will not solve its current problems but
will get worse." D

    Howl Against Censorship

Fifty years ago, on October 3, Judge Clayton Horn ruled that Allen
Ginsberg's great epic Beat-era poem HOWL was not obscene but instead, a work
of literary and social merit. This ruling allowed for the publication of HOWL
and exonerated the poet Lawrence Ferlinghetti, who faced jail time and a fine
50 years ago for publishing "HOWL."

Fifty years later, with draconian FCC fines for language infractions, you
still can't hear HOWL on the radio. That's something to howl about. This
October 3, WBAI and Pacifica Radio Network invite you to join our commemoration
of Judge Horn's ruling on behalf of free speech, by listening to a recording of
the poet Allen Ginsberg, himself, reading the unadulterated HOWL.

The commemoration of HOWL will also be led Lawrence Ferlingetti, poet Bob
Holman of the Bowery Poetry Club, first amendment lawyer Ron Collins, Beat
Generation scholar and filmmaker Regina Weinreich, WBAI's Program Director
Bernard White and WBAI Arts Director Janet Coleman, who will discuss the
relevance of the poem to language censorship in broadcast media today. Allen
Ginsberg's reading of HOWL is copyrighted and used by permission of Fantasy
Records. From "Howls, Raps & Roars: Recordings from the San Francisco Poetry
Renaissance" (produced by Bill Belmont; Fantasy, 1993). Occasional musical
background from "Pull My Daisy and Other Jazz Classics" by the David Amram
Quartet.

With thanks for the generous efforts of John Crigler, Barney and Astrid
Rossett, Hettie Jones, David Dozer, Chante Mouton, and Jon Almeleh, Nathan
Moore, Ursula Ruedenberg and Pete Korakis of Pacifica.
