Abati, Drop it and trying to sell yourself as the only person

America". I too can make that claim. I want to apologize but you asked for
it....you got it. I am going to explain and you KNOW I am not a woman of

get eye strain, pal! As a person whose ancestors included both poor
Europeans yearing to be free and Native Americans with relatives who LIVE on
the reservation created to hold MY people in, I don't owe you an apology. I
exercised my First Amendment (while we have it) rights. I respect your right
to do so as well. You are free to speak your mind. We can disagree with each
other's views but I
am not a proponent of
censorship or putting a person on trial for a view point that was not intended
to be harmful. If you feel that I meant to hurt, I apologize for THAT but I
will not apoloize for saying something that was not intended to harm. Like a
much wiser man once said, "If some us don't have rights, none of us have
rights". I note that one of the people who is logged into this list is a
former ally to KPFT, Sam Kateka. He served on the National Board and our local
one too. When we both ran for the board, Sam and I shared a great idea that
involved dividing our city up in four sections with bureau style coverage. I
am back on the board after a year of serving on committees as a member of the
KPFT Community and I am working with a fellow board member on his project. I
am also working on one I will be doing but it
is not fullly
realized. It is in the planning stage with great support! I couldn't pursue
this while we had a few years of Roberts Rules hell imposed by a few who used
to hold the rest of the board hostage. It's a new day and we are actually
doing our agenda items and moving forward toward things including old dream
projects! THIS is great! The idea, which I am now pursuing, involves going
out to the community and not expecting them to come to our local Pacifica
station. I am going to be working at an event in Fifth Ward soon. I will be
setting up a table where I will be registering people to vote. Correct me if I
am wrong, I don't want to miss this important fact, isn't Houston's Fifth Ward
the original home of our wonderful late Congresswoman Barbara Jordan? I
will be doing the work that the
people did when it was
dangerous in the sixties. I don't feel that I will be in danger in a day and
age when we don't have poll taxes, but it is just as important to help our
fellow Americans from all backgrounds to have a voice. This is a time when
being enpowered to control your own destiny can determine the outcome of our

people like me would be barefoot pregnant and kicked back into "our place" in

back door clinics. I helped at our student health center one early summer
day, thirty four years ago for my work study hours. I monitored the vital
signs (for our Dr. Smith at North Texas's center), for a girl who had a close
encounter of the clothes hanger kind. I had her bleed on me as I helped her to
get comfortable in the bed while we waited for an ambulance. I helped by
calling her teachers demanding an excused absence for her. I LOVED it when a
teacher challenged me. I told him to call and informed him that if he didn't
that the Dean of Students would love to talk with him about his job
performance. This was one of
the only perks I
got as a teacher's kid. I knew the school heirarchy!! I trust my friends
from the Black community to not vote for a scary dude like John McCain who
gets his financial advice from Phil Gramm, a guy who thinks we are a nation of
