[NewPacifica] RE: [change-links] Pacifica (WBAI) and its Corporate Partners (Link)

Please, folks -- a little clear thought is in order here. These matching funds
are NOT the same as CPB funds -- they can't possibly compromise the
stations in any way. Since I just got done posting a reply on another list,
I'm going to save myself the bother of writing a fresh post on the subject:

Jim: Sometimes it's really worth taking a minute or two to think things
through before dashing off a post. Do you REALLY think all of these
companies have checked out WBAI and have all decided to buy into
-- and "buy a piece of" -- the station and its programming? What are
you smoking, man? <g>

FYI, most large companies/corporations have established matching-fund
programs to encourage charitable giving by their employees. As a public
broadcasting station, WBAI qualifies for such programs *generically*.
There are no strings attached to the money, it's a simple book-keeping
operation. So why would you want to cut off money siphoned straight from
the belly of the beast? In any event, I doubt there are large numbers of
WBAI subscribers working for those corporations -- that list is probably
more wishful thinking on the part of someone at WBAI.

Richard,

No wonder Pacifica has no bones about taking Corporation for Public
Broadcasting Funds!

I've heard that the reason CPB funding isn't talked about, is because no one
wants individual producers at the various stations fighting over
the funds, until Pacifica settles its dispute / contract or whatever its
arrangement is with Free Speech Radio News.
