Just received word from Senator Kennedy's office that Senator Feinstein does not intend to filibuster on the confirmation of nominee Samuel Alito to the SCOTUS .

Sigh, once again I write:

And I added:  And then who will the Repubs put up?  Bork?  Or John Yoo, professor and the torture memo writer for Bush from UC?

Alito has former clerks working in SF who are progressives and have done pro bono work for detainees of the Bush  administration.  They say he is not idealogical or extreme and is devoted to the law in an academic sense.  They also like him.  Knee jerk opposition to him could land us in a whole lot of trouble.  Kennedy looked like a jerk and came up with egg on his face.

Our only other option would be to stall until the next election, which might not solve anything.

Come on, guys, this is the real world.  I would want to watch, however, anything regarding increased executive power.

And let's nix the Patriot Act, Patriots.

Avis

Contact your Senators to hold firm against the appointment of Judge Alito to the Supreme Court. On a relative front, the extension of the previous version of the US Patriot Act runs out Feb 3. The Senate will soon be deliberating regarding Senator Russ Feingold's submitted provisional changes to the Patriot Act supported by both Democrats and Republicans (see references below). Make sure your Senators support Sen. Feingold's efforts and continue to filibuster if necessary. Insist they also take immediate action against the blatant unconstitutional application of Executive Power by this President to spy on Americans, among other things. We are in a constitutional crisis.  Impeach Bush now!
