[NewPacifica] Letter re: Tom Cruise & Post-partum Depression

Last July the New York Times ran an Op-Ed piece about post-partum
depression by Brooke Shields, following the uproar over Tom Cruise's
criticisms of her for having used anti-depressant drugs to alleviate her
suffering. I wrote this letter to the editor, which wasn't published. - CG

Editor:

Bravo to Brooke Shields -- and a big Thumbs Down to the
insufferable Tom Cruise. When he was on Access Hollywood
in May, Mr. Cruise acknowledged that post-partum depression is
"a hormonal thing... scientifically, you can prove that," but then
told Matt Lauer on the Today Show, "there is no such thing as
a chemical imbalance." He seems not to grasp the simple fact
that hormones are chemicals.

Tom Cruise's misguided admonitions on the subject of
post-partum depression are far more damaging than a
splash of water. How ironic that when Mr. Cruise was
squirted in the face by a prankster last month, he angrily
asked the man, "Why would you do that?" and followed up
by telling the miscreant "You are a jerk, a jerk..."

Perhaps he needs to take a look in the mirror.
