Yeah, I've a gripe with Laurel too. Years ago I Rode the Dog, Greyhound, through rural SE Mississippi..on the cheap, of course. Went to the town to stay overnight and upon arriving found the burg segregated, was unable to find a hotel. Spent a quite but chilly, foggy night sleeping on an open church veranda.
