>From Ray Laforest, former PNB member: ISHN ON THE CURRENT UPRISING IN HAITI The International Support Haiti Network (ISHN), an organization which supports the struggle of the Haitian people to change their daily deteriorating life conditions, would like to fix its position on the uprising against the high cost of living, against which the Haitian people are today rising up. ISHN notes that for several months popular organizations such as Aba Satan have been holding regular sit-ins every Tuesday in front of the Commerce Ministry to force the authorities to lower prices on products of prime necessities which the chintzy bourgeoisie is constantly raising, making the people suffer more. Unfortunately, the Preval/Alexis government is pretending that it didn't see or hear. Instead, they joked with the people, such as when Preval said that if they have a demonstration, they should pass by and get him. His Prime Minister Alexis said that he could not squeeze blood from a stone. That shows clearly that they made a choice to apply the neoliberal plan, the death plan, in the country, so that the IMF and the World Bank could continue to give them a good report card for good governance while the people are dying of hunger. Rocks in the water can never truly know the pain of rocks in the sun. In this sense, today the popular masses have shifted into a higher gear to carry out a major mobilization against poverty, hunger and unemployment, which is eating out their insides. They are taking to the streets to cry hell against the high cost of living. The government with all the occupation forces responded by firing bullets directly at their stomachs. The bourgeoisie has made hunger a weapon to use against the people, to prevent them from struggling for a better life. Today the people say enough! ISHN lets it be known that it supports with all its might this huge mobilization that the people have unleashed throughout Haiti beginning with Les Cayes, Gonaives, Petit Goave, Jeremie, St. Marc, Port-au-Prince and others. This movement looks a lot like the 2001 uprising in Argentina against the neoliberal plan. ISHN calls on the people to remain vigilant against opportunists and hypocritical politicians who want to take a free ride on the back of their mobilization. Watch out for the GNBists (pro-coup sector); they are also in the streets. The hungry dog doesn't play. The government has to get off of the neoliberal train to give the people food and the occupation forces (MINUSTAH) have to leave the country so that the people can finish with insecurity, poverty, hunger and unemployment.
