Title: Re: [NewPacifica] Tonight on 'Nightline'
My sister published a lot on Purity of Heart and in a French encyclopaedia on Katharsis. (Dictionaire de la Spiritualite, with appropriate French accents. Also in Studia Monastica.) In the early church, she thought, purity had not taken on its later connotations in religious belief pertaining to sex. She was a member of the much Criticised Catholic Church, as were her very scholarly and her political friends. Purity of Heart, the book about her, is now out of print. She didn't think you could be a Christian without loving the poor.

Okay, Kevin was joking with an hammer in his left hand. Funny in+deed.
From a new left POLITICAL pov his attacking the catholic church, muddled as the message was, is right on and well within The Scheme of things, it was fitting for the coming New Time era. As such it SERVES a good Purpose and is heartily welcomed.
I recommend any person seriously interested in EXPLORING religion, christian/Jesus in this instance, in+form themselves by deeply considering both sides of argumentation by using sources from within and without the church (-es). That's the way of a searcher, a pilgrim on a Quest (quest-ion). For INDIVIDUALS this right way of seeking for Truth has been ongoing for 2000+ years.
There'll be nothing new in the new world since the now arriving new news is nothing but the old news. If you know the new you'll know the old, if you know the old you'll know the new....two perspectives, one reality: two paths, two directions, and yet only one path. Alpha-omega: face forward - face backward. What is history other than a bridge the can be entered from either end?
Now, reader, if not a searcher but rather one who already has the Truth (truth) and want to shout out YOUR truth to the world, well then, follow the path laid out by the below writer whose writings well reveal his way.
Given the web we in this age are truly gifted by an overflowing stream of info made available to us, it's awe inspiring. How one uses it is another matter, but isn't that always the case? All I know is what you put into things is what you get out of them and if you don't like the returns on your investment don't complain to me.
I'm providing one of many links which are gold mines for easily accessible and reliable info worthy of consideration. Don't allow the institutional pov turn you off! http://www.newadvent.org/ . Outsiders, like myself, can peer into the church, you know. If one doesn't look there's no way he can see what's in there. Huh?
There is no possiblity of understanding western (christian) history (For christians, believers or not, that includes ones own personal life) and why through time the whole world manifested as it did without keening the 2000! year tumultuous experience of the church. It's NOT that the church (or christians: left, center, right) is Truth, not at all, but that The Truth has been WITHIN and AVAILABLE within the institution at all times.
There isn't a decent church in existence that doesn't acknowledge, "We ARE wrong (sinners)." Wish I could say the same for those who are self-righeous atheists speaking FROM the unconscious but presumptous, "We are right (perfect)". They don't realize their self-limiting error. Join the catholic church? Not in my opinion, I'm adamantly against it but the truth is the institution does have two millenia of priceless resources to aid one on his path.
At the end of The Tunnel we're all in there's nothing but the Absolute, that's all there is, The Pearl (Living Sun/Fire) of great price. Sorry, one has to pay with his/her life to find it. Effort is required.
Religion(s) is for playful kids, it is for whiners, it is for blamers, and it is for chatterers and self-serving saints....it's a gift from The Prophet(s) for all people and peoples.
Wisdom (fem) can take you to The Center of all centers but only the Eternal Sun can open the door. Intellect without faith is dead.
OK, come hell or high water I'm off the board for the day. Sorry for the intrusion. /R

"The National Geographic Society held a press conference today on the writings of a small Christian group from the second century that is purported to have written the Gospel according

Damn that Council of Trent! Wasn't there a biblical oversight committee? A committee of inclusion? Bunch o' damn white people actually 'voting' for what goes into the bible!
Damn you Second Council of Nicea! Mutherf*ckeers! First they get rid of black jesus, then they edit out what they don't like. Where's my gospel according to Mary Magdelane? You sexist proto-catholics! The bible needs afirmative action and equal representation.
Okay, it's a little far to go for a joke.
