Ok here is the eternal debate in what you just said: Do you want easier to configure or more stable? In my eye OpenBSD is more stable and a billion times more secure than FreeBSD as the code goes through rigorous testing for security holes within the code. FreeBSD is much easier to configure but then again not as secure as OpenBSD. For a firewall pick OpenBSD and OpenBSD alone. Security and protection is what OpenBSD is all about and not portability and simplicity which FreeBSD is based on. Plus OpenBSD's firewalling is not that hard to setup, it may take some time to do this but build it behind your current firewall on a small box (233mhz or bigger) and test it out with a machine behind it. I have had them built in a few hours or less, but then again I have configured them before. Goto OpenBSD's site and read the FAQ for it and it will walk you through it. >From: Thorsten <henni@brainbot.com> >To: "'firewalls@lists.gnac.net'" <firewalls@pluto.gnac.com> >Subject: OpenBSD or FreeBSD >Date: Tue, 26 Jun 2001 15:37:46 +0200 > >We are discussing to use either OpenBSD or FreeBSD >for our new firewall. > >Does anybody know, Which one is more stable >and which one is easier to configure and support? > >At the moment we are using debian linux, with the help >of some scripts it is ok to configure. > >Does anybody have an opinion? > >Thankks for any comments, > >Henni > > > >-- >brainbot technologies AG >schwalbacherstr. 74 65183 wiesbaden . germany >vox +49 611 238505-0 fax ++49 611 238505-1 >http://brainbot.com/ mailto:henni@brainbot.com >_______________________________________________ >Firewalls mailing list >Firewalls@lists.gnac.net >http://lists.gnac.net/mailman/listinfo/firewalls _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com _______________________________________________ Firewalls mailing list Firewalls@lists.gnac.net http://lists.gnac.net/mailman/listinfo/firewalls
